Pre & aftercareYour aftercare guide

This guide applies to all my treatments: eyebrows, eyeliner, lip blush and lip camouflage. Questions while you heal? WhatsApp me on 084 911 1955.

01
Day 0 to 2

Immediately after

  • The area will feel a bit sore and will look quite intense. There may be some swelling and minor bruising that only lasts for 1 to 2 days.
  • The next day, the colour will darken as scabs begin to form. There may still be some swelling or minor bruising.
  • The scab will fall off within 3 to 10 days, depending on your skin and the treatment you had done.
02
Day 0

The day of treatment

  • Fluids will leak from the treated area and form scabs. You don't want these fluids to sit and form scabs, so wipe the area every hour with a wet cotton round and pat it dry.
  • You may ice the skin if it feels tender or swollen. Wrap an ice pack or a zip-lock bag of ice in a napkin and hold it on the area for as long as you like.
03
Day 2 to 10

While it heals

  • Do not touch the area with dirty fingers. It is an open, healing wound, and an infection could ruin the result.
  • Don't get it too wet for too long. Soggy scabs fall off too early. Keep them on as long as you can and let them fall off naturally.
  • Moisturise with the recommended or provided ointment. For eyes and eyebrows, put on only a very sheer layer at night. For lips, moisturise as often as you like. If your skin is naturally oily, let eyeliner and eyebrows heal without ointment and pat dry with a napkin during the day.
  • Do not sleep on your face, so you don't lift the scabs early, and sleep on a clean pillowcase to avoid infection.
  • Avoid harsh cleansers, creams, make-up or any other products on the area until all the scabs have fallen off naturally.
  • Don't pick, scratch or bite off the scabs. Picking can cause scarring, loss of pigment or infection.
  • Keep the area out of the sun and away from tanning beds for 4 weeks. UV can change the colour dramatically.
  • Do not sweat on the area until all the scabs have come off. Sweat pulls pigment out. If you do sweat, dab it off immediately.
  • No facials, Botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks after your appointment.
04
Week 2 to 6

After the scabbing phase

  • Once the scabs have completely fallen off, you can wear make-up over the area and go back to your normal routine.
  • After the scabs come off, the colour may look milky or grey. This just means the surface skin has healed while the layers underneath are still healing. Full healing takes 6 weeks, and only then does the true, final colour show. A touch-up can only be done after 6 weeks.
  • Your healed result will be softer and less crisp than on the day.
  • Results vary from person to person and depend a lot on your skin and how you care for it while it heals. It may take more than one session to get the result you want.
05
Week 6 onwards

Once fully healed

  • Avoid using these on the area: benzoyl peroxide, hydrogen peroxide, glycolic acid, apple cider vinegar, vitamin E and C, and retinol. They can lighten or fade the pigment faster.
  • Wear sunscreen. UV breaks down pigment. Salt water and chlorine fade it faster too, so rinse with fresh water after swimming.
  • If you have laser or facial beauty treatments, tell your therapist beforehand that you have permanent make-up.
  • Permanent make-up fades after 1 to 3 years, depending on your skin and lifestyle, and touch-ups keep it looking its best. Oily skin, an iron deficiency or a very strong immune system can mean pigment doesn't last as long or heal as crisply.
  • Cover-up work may need extra appointments, as the new work may not completely cover the old.
